What we do
Deaf Orphans Education Trust is highly committed to working with people who have hearing difficulties both in the UK and Malawi.
Our services are aimed at improving the needs of the deaf especially young people who as a result of their disability often suffer from exclusion from normal life including education and social engagement.
Our activities in the UK include:
• Outreach activities for children during weekends and school holidays.
• Summer holiday trips.
• Organising fun events including parties and fairs.
• Special training seminars and workshops aimed at providing deaf people with social skills to build their self confidence, engage in team work and experience a sense of belonging in their communities
Activities in Malawi
Deaf Orphans Education Trust has launched a Capital Appeal to raise money to build a special secondary school for deaf orphans in Malawi.
We need to raise £250,000 for building and first year running costs for a 200 capacity school in Lilongwe, Malawi
The School
The special boarding school will be the first of it’s kind offering mainstream education and special apprenticeship training and employment skills that are much needed upon their graduation.
Most of the children we care for have been excluded from mainstream schools or are facing exclusion due to their hearing disability. They are also very poor and their families cannot afford to educate them privately or enrol them in the few government managed deaf schools.
How you can help
We are asking all our supporters to help us care for these special children experiencing disadvantage and poverty due to their hearing disability.
Our buy a brick campaign allows you to support Deaf Orphans Education Trust .
Please buy a brick for £ 2.50 with all the proceeds going towards the Capital Appeal.
Should you wish to donate on behalf of someone else, perhaps as a Christmas present or birthday gift, a certificate can be personalised on request.
All our supporters on the Buy a Brick Campaign will have their names engraved on a walk of fame at the Academy upon completion.
